EISBERG

The lettuce chosen for our main sandwiches and premium Salads is Eisberg Lettuce.  In our Premium salads we use at least six varieties of lettuce all of which are grown with great care.  Good lettuce quality is the result of proper sowing and seedlings. Our lettuce start its life in a small fertile peat block and are then planted in specially prepared fields.

It takes approximately 50 days for lettuce to reach the correct shape and size. The key to good quality is the distance between the plants, temperatures and the amount of daylight and humidity.   After harvesting it is important to cool the lettuce down  quickly  2 – 6°C. This guarantees the lettuce will remain crisp and fresh.

Lettuce is prepared in a temperature controlled environment. The leaves are  then cut, washed thoroughly and chilled in potable ice-water. After washing, the lettuce is dried carefully in a centrifuge. The lettuce is then packed in   bags and is transported to the nearest McDonald’s distribution centre.
